The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of Italy's most famous landmarks and a masterpiece
of medieval architecture. It is located in the Piazza dei Miracoli in the city of Pisa, in the picturesque region of Tuscany. The freestanding bell tower is part of the city's
cathedral complex and was begun in 1173. Shortly after construction started, the tower
began to lean due to the soft, uneven ground, which earned it its worldwide fame.
With a height of around 56 metres and a current inclination of around four degrees, the
tower fascinates visitors from all over the world. Over the centuries, numerous attempts
have been made to stabilise the tilt in order to prevent it from collapsing. Thanks to
extensive restoration work in recent decades, the tilt has been stabilised so that the
tower can now be safely visited and even accessed.
